Cabinet Approves Division of State Taxes and Excise Department into Two Specialized Units
In a notable step towards bolstering administrative efficiency, the Cabinet has approved the restructuring of the State Taxes and Excise department. This restructuring entails the establishment of two specialized units – the Excise wing and the GST and Allied Taxes wing. This strategic decision is aimed at optimizing the operations of these crucial departments, fostering a more focused and effective approach in dealing with taxation matters.
In a simultaneous development, the Cabinet has sanctioned the continuation of the third phase of the Himachal Pradesh Sadbhawana Legacy Cases Resolution Scheme, 2023. The extension, valid from January 1, 2024, to March 31, 2024, is designed to accelerate the resolution of pending assessment cases and arrears. Cases that were previously mired in litigation or awaiting assessment under the Acts subsumed under GST will now undergo a thorough settlement process.
Recognizing the paramount importance of infrastructure development, the Cabinet has given the go-ahead for the development, operation, and maintenance of a Ropeway from Nature Park Mohal to Bijli Mahadev Temple in the Kullu district. The proceeds generated from this initiative will be equitably shared between the Union and State Governments, fostering collaborative efforts to boost tourism and enhance connectivity in the region.
Expanding its scope, the Cabinet has also granted approval to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Dairy Development Board. This MoU revolves around consultancy services for establishing an automated milk processing plant at Dhagwar in the Kangra district. Envisioned with a capacity of 1.50 lakh litres per day (expandable up to 3 LLPD), the proposed plant aims to invigorate the dairy industry and produce value-added products.
In a notable stride towards social welfare, the Cabinet has given in-principle approval to the draft of the Mukhyamantri Vidhva Avam Ekal Nari Awas Yojna-2023. Under this scheme, financial assistance of Rs. 1.50 lakh will be extended for the construction of houses for widows and single women. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring a secure and dignified living environment for the vulnerable sections of society.
